“What Should I Do?” Are the 4 important words that led to the creation of Aviation MRO. This is the question that the company pioneer, the then Group Captain Tanveer Ahmad, asked himself when he decided to quit Pakistan Air Force in 2007 after almost 30 years in the uniform. After pondering over many options, the answer that he finally gave to this question was “What I have done my entire life”. He had been into the aircraft / helicopters Maintenance – Repair – Overhaul profession for all these long years. Hence, he decided to launch this company “Aviation MRO” where the name tells all.
Next 18 months were spent putting the idea onto the paper. Result of this effort was a Business Plan that had inputs from numerous successful businessmen, including one Venture Capitalist “Dr Akram Choudary” from the Silicon Valley. The journey was not at all easy though. Initial versions of the Business Plan were summarily dismissed by Dr Akram Choudary as “Rubbish and Typical of an engineer’s mentality”. However, his conviction in the idea did not wane but rather motivated him further. Even the staggering 20 Million Dollar funds requirement did not deter him although all that he had at that time was just 1.6 million Rupees (or US$ 0.02 Million only). After all, he had to stick to the answer “What I had done my entire life”.
With tremendous spontaneous support from Mr Naveed Ashraf,, including financial contribution, the Company was formally launched from the prestigious platform of International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2008 in which the Company appeared as an Exhibitor. Slightly more than half of Tanveer’s assets (Rs 0.85 Million) were consumed in this 4 day event. But, it was worth it. It helped company find its identity and get its logo whose orange and blue colours, represented with two birds, together represent the Engineering and Flying domains.
